The historic marvel known as Nedumkotta passes through this panchayat. It was constructed by the King of Travancore, Karthika Thirunal Rama Varma, with the permission and assistance of the Kingdom of Cochin, to thwart continuous attacks from the Zamorin of Calicut. Dividing Kerala into two, this massive fortification stretched all the way from the Arabian Sea to the Anamala hills Remarkably, this 56-kilometer-long fort was built in just a few days. It holds a significant place in history for successfully resisting the invasions of both Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. The northwestern region of Poyya Grama Panchayat is connected to the Arabian Sea and the Periyar River. Consequently, this area is a prominent waterbody zone filled with backwaters, canals, Pokkali rice fields, and wetlands. In contrast, the southeastern part of the panchayat is a freshwater region.
