Panchayat

A Panchayat is a body of elected representatives responsible for administering the affairs of Panchayat Raj institutions. As far as a Grama Panchayat is concerned, it is the key committee that implements the decisions of the Grama Sabha and manages day-to-day administration.The main components of a Panchayat are:President: The head of the Panchayat. They preside over meetings and supervise the overall activities of the Panchayat.Vice President: Performs the duties of the President in their absence.Ward Members: Elected representatives from each ward of the Panchayat.Standing Committees: To facilitate easier decision-making in the Panchayat, standing committees are formed for sectors such as finance, development, welfare, health and education.

History of Grama Panchayat

Geographical Location: Poyya Grama Panchayat is spread across an area of 19.78 square kilometers with 16 wards, located in Mala Block under Kodungallur Taluk of Thrissur district. Formation and First Administration: Formed in the Malayalam year 1093 (Kollam Era) before the Travancore-Cochin unification, with nominated representatives of the King of Cochin, the first President of this Panchayat was Ambookan Itteera Lonappan. Elected Leaders: The first President elected through adult franchise was P.T. Kochouseph, and the first woman President was R.K. Bhargavi Teacher.
